My Topol fellowship problem / project:

Big data has changed practice in industries such as retail and banking. The digital infrastructure of the NHS is in a strong position to lead change in healthcare research. My project aims to use routinely collected healthcare data from electronic patient records to develop a machine learning model to predict surgical disease and disease severity to help aid in the clinical decision-making process in Emergency General Surgery.

I am a Consultant in General Surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. I studied Medicine at the University of St.Andrews and the University of Manchester, and completed my surgical training in the North Western Deanery rotation. I am excited to join the fellowship to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in General Surgery.
